From 31st January to April 21st this year Ethan McIlwaine joined us at CCP Gransden on a placement in industry. Ethan is studying Mechatronic Engineering at South Eastern Regional College. Ethan initially shadowed several members of our team, familiarising himself with various roles in the business and offering support where possible. Ethan swiftly learned a selection of different processes and was assigned a range of value-adding tasks which he completed over the duration of his placement.
Speaking about his placement Ethan stated; “I have greatly enjoyed my time working at CCP Gransden. I have learnt so much valuable information over the last 12 weeks and have gained a great insight into the industry of advanced composites whether it be the initial designing and concept stages, or the precise detailed manufacture of the parts, or the rigorous testing and quality checks before the end product. CCP Gransden gave me opportunities to witness manufacturing for 3 major industries: defence, aerospace, and automotive. I really enjoyed the hands-on approach I was given throughout my time, a personal favourite was my research and experimentation into the world of sustainable-composites creating robust, lightweight and most importantly eco-friendly parts. It was admirable to see the pure dedication and passion my fellow engineers and colleagues have towards the business and satisfying their customers with the high quality of work they produce. A massive thanks to the whole of CCP Gransden for really involving and making me part of the team during my placement.”
Over the years CCP Gransden has supported several students from South Eastern Regional College with paid placements. Ethan has now chosen to carry on further study and is hoping to start a degree at UWE Bristol, in September.
Ethan, from all the team at CCP Gransden we wish you the best for the future.
